What do the stars hold for Aussie Speculative Fiction? More opportunities for being published, of course!
ASF is planning to release a series of zodiac-inspired collections, featuring poetry, flash fiction and short stories (up to 15,000 words) based on individual star signs. Stories must be speculative in nature as described by the following definition:
“Speculative fiction is an umbrella genre encompassing narrative fiction with supernatural or futuristic elements. This includes, but not limited to, science fiction, fantasy, superhero fiction, science fantasy, horror, utopian and dystopian fiction, supernatural fiction as well as combinations thereof.”
Stories must be written by Australian or Kiwi authors.
Word limit: Up to 15,000.
At this stage, we are looking for submissions inspired by three star signs only: Virgo, Libra and Scorpio. However, we will be seeking entries for the Sagittarius – the final star sign – at a later date, so feel free to get inspired!
We are opening submissions at three month intervals, and closing them when we have received enough submissions.
Libra: CURRENTLY OPEN.
Scorpio: CURRENTLY OPEN.
Sagittarius: CURRENTLY OPEN.
Prompt: Submissions must be inspired by the relevant star sign.
Please send submissions to email@example.com with your chosen zodiac sign and story title as the subject of your email, and include the word count and a short bio (under 150 words) in the body of the e-mail.
You may submit more than one story per anthology. We are open to publishing a poem, a flash fiction piece and a longer story by the one author in each collection if the pieces merit it.
Reprints accepted, as long as you hold the rights.
Royalties will be paid twice yearly and split evenly amongst the authors.
Please send all submissions in a size 12 point, with 1.5 spaces between the lines, and with double (“) quotation marks for speech.
